The Federal Government says it would continue to support private investment in sports as private investors play a crucial role in the growth and sustainability of the sector.
Mohammed Manga, the Director of Press and Public Relations in the ministry, said in a press release that the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, disclosed this weekend in Ikenne, Ogun State, when he visited the headquarters of Remo Stars Football Club.
Enoh also stated that government alone cannot carry the weight of sports development in the country and that was why he added, that more private investors like Remo Stars Football Club are needed to drive the sector, in line with contemporary global realities.
He said: “I am impressed by the commitment of Honourable Kunle Soname and his team, and I assure you that the Ministry of Sports Development will actively encourage and support private investment in sports across the nation.”
While expressing his admiration for the impressive infrastructure and facilities at Remo Stars, Enoh noted that the club’s dedication to providing a world-class environment for its players and staff is quite commendable.
He applauded Soname and the entire management team for their commitment to the development of football in Nigeria, adding that Remo Stars is a shining example of a privately-owned sports entity that is making significant strides in elevating the standards of football in the nation.
He therefore called on private sector investors to continue to join hands and collaborate with the Federal Government in its avowed determination to develop the sports sector not only as a mere recreation but as a business.
Speaking, Soname expressed gratitude for the minister’s visit and reiterated the club’s commitment to contributing to the overall development of sports in Nigeria.
He stated that the club’s facilities are open to both Junior and National Teams for camping of players anytime the football federation feels that the club can be of help.
Soname commended Enoh for being the first Minister of Sports in Nigeria to visit the Club’s facilities since it was launched.
