The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr Adebowale A. Adedokun, has emerged as the Public Sector Reformer of the Year at the prestigious Face of Africa Leadership Honour held in London, United Kingdom.
The event, organised by Triangle International Magazine, drew policymakers, business leaders, and members of the Nigerian diaspora, who gathered to celebrate excellence in leadership and governance across Africa.
The Head of Press and Public Relations, BPP, Mr. Zira Zakka Nagga, said in a press statement: “Dr. Adedokun’s recognition comes amid sweeping reforms within Nigeria’s procurement system, which stakeholders say have significantly improved transparency, accountability, and ease of doing business.
“Under his leadership, the BPP has strengthened regulatory frameworks, digitised procurement processes, and enhanced compliance mechanisms across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
“These efforts have contributed to Nigeria’s growing global reputation in public procurement, with recent reports placing the country among the top-performing nations in procurement standards and practices.”

Nagga added that at the event, several attendees, including members of the Nigerian business community in the UK, praised the BPP boss for repositioning the procurement sector into a more transparent and competitive space.
They noted that the ongoing reforms have reduced bureaucratic bottlenecks and created opportunities for both local and diaspora investors to participate more actively in government contracts.
The spokesman added: “The recognition also reflects the broader reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose administration has prioritised institutional strengthening, transparency, and economic competitiveness.
“Observers at the event commended the President for appointing capable hands and providing the enabling environment for reforms to thrive.”
According to the organisers, while commenting on the milestones recorded by the present administration at the BPP, President Tinubu’s commitment to accountability and good governance is gradually restoring investor confidence and positioning Nigeria as a more attractive destination for foreign direct investment.
In his remarks, Dr. Adedokun dedicated the award to the President and reaffirmed his commitment to deepening reforms within the procurement sector.
He emphasised that transparency, efficiency, and inclusiveness will remain central to the Bureau’s operations.
He said: “This recognition is not just for me, it is first and foremost for Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose transformative leadership has been the inspiration we continue to leverage.
“It is also for the entire team at the Bureau of Public Procurement, as well as the administration of Mr. President, which has supported these reforms.
“We will continue to work towards a procurement system that reflects global best practices and serves the Nigerian people effectively.”
The award, according to the organisers, marks another milestone in the tenure of Adebowale Adedokun at the BPP, noting that they have closely observed developments in the sector and that it further cements his role as a key driver of public sector reform and a leading voice in advancing good governance in Nigeria.
