At least six individuals lost their lives and 15 others were injured in a suicide bombing in Gwoza, Borno State.
The tragic event occurred when a suicide bomber set off an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Gwoza town on Saturday.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the explosion happened at the bustling Marrarraban Gwoza motor park.
Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusuf Lawal, confirmed the incident, noting that a female suicide bomber was responsible.
Lawal reported that the Divisional Police Officer in Gwoza informed him of the casualties, which included at least six fatalities and 15 injured individuals who were taken to the hospital.
An eyewitness named Buba told NAN that the bomber targeted a wedding ceremony.
Buba described how the attack turned a joyous occasion into one of mourning and sorrow for the families involved.
Another witness, Muhammed Kasim, mentioned that the explosion took place around 1:30 p.m.
“We heard a very loud explosion, followed by dust; then we saw bodies on the ground,” he recounted.
He added that many of the victims were rushed to the hospital and security forces were deployed to secure the area. (NAN)
