A truck carrying goats, people, and goods tumbled on Zaria Road flyover, resulting in the death of at least 120 goats.
This accident happened just 48 hours after another truck, transporting cows from Wudil to Enugu, flipped over on Maiduguri Road flyover in Kano.
The Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, reported that they received an emergency call from the DPO of Kwalli Police Division, SP Muhd Auwal Abubakar, at around 3:30 am on Monday.
Firemen from the central, Kantin Kwari, and Danladi Nasidi fire stations were dispatched to the accident site at 3:42 am.
He said, “A long truck trailer open body with registration number KMC 311 QZ conveyed 90 people, 199 goats and 5 Bajaj motorcycles. The truck fell down on the flyover of Zaria road.
“The officer-in-charge of the operation informed the control room. Twenty-five people were rescued unconscious and 49 people managed to escape with serious injuries on their bodies while 17 people were rescued alive without any injury. Thereafter 120 goats were dead and 79 goats were rescued alive.”
Abdullahi mentioned that the state fire service, Federal Road Safety Corps, police, and other agencies transported the rescued victims to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for medical attention, while those unconscious were taken to Abdullahi Wasai Teaching Hospital.
He also noted that the accident was caused by speeding.
