Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande has stressed the need to use local resources to create jobs.
“We can create more jobs by using local resources,” he said at the third Lagos State Employment Summit held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.
Olawande urged government officials, community leaders, and business owners to work together to explore the potential of local resources across Nigeria.
He believes that local communities have valuable natural, cultural, and human resources that can help grow the economy and provide jobs.
“The government alone can’t create enough jobs for our growing youth population, and neither can the private sector. We need to work together to use our resources and skills to create jobs,” Olawande said.
He pointed out that almost every local area in Nigeria has a unique advantage in producing certain products. He called for strategic partnerships between government agencies, private companies, and educational institutions to make the most of these local strengths for job creation.
Participants at the summit praised Olawande’s initiatives, especially his “one youth, two skills” program, which aims to equip young people with multiple skills.
The event, organized by the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), brought together key figures from the private and public sectors to discuss job creation through collaboration.
Attendees included Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, and GTB Founder Fola Adeola.
The summit provided a platform to review job creation strategies and explore collaboration opportunities between the private and public sectors.
