Troops from Sector 2 Joint Task Force, North-East Operation Hadin Kai, with the help of local hunters, stopped Boko Haram insurgents from damaging power towers in Kasesa, near Damaturu.
Capt. Naziru Shehu, acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the sector, told journalists in Damaturu on Sunday.
He said the combined troops of Combat Team (CT) 7 of the 27 Task Force Brigade carried out the operation on Saturday after getting reliable information about the planned attack.
“On receipt of credible intelligence of BHT activities, troops swiftly laid a successful ambush on the terrorists.
“The terrorists abandoned a Toyota Corolla, 8 prepared Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), detonating cables, 2 damaged tyres as well as trade test card/certificate after the troops brought heavy volume of fire on them,” Shehu said.
He mentioned that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, and the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, Maj.-Gen. W Shaibu, praised the residents for their cooperation.
Shehu also urged the public to stay alert and always provide reliable information to security agencies about suspicious people in the area. (NAN)
