The Minister of State for Police Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim has said that the Federal Government is committed to establishing a world-class police force that is inclusive, intelligence-led, technology-driven, and community-based.

The Minister made this announcement during the “Renewed Hope Police Agenda: Citizens Town Hall Engagement on Strengthening Community Policing in Nigeria” event held at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, Abia State.

The Ministry’s Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, Bolaji O. Kazeem, sated that the Minister emphasized the government’s focus on deep reforms supported by a robust implementation plan and innovative resource allocation to overcome challenges that have hindered previous reform efforts.

“Security is local, and we must acknowledge and embrace the unique dynamics of each community in our pursuit of a safer nation,” she stated.

The Minister highlighted the importance of community-specific solutions and the role of town hall engagements in fostering a better understanding of security dynamics at the grassroots level.

She also acknowledged the economic significance of Abia State, known for its commerce and industry, which poses unique security challenges, including business-related crimes and issues related to road safety, smuggling, and the protection of critical infrastructure.

“Despite these challenges, Abia State has consistently shown resilience, and we are here to help strengthen it further,” she noted.

Hajia Sulaiman-Ibrahim outlined the “Renewed Hope Police Agenda,” which focuses on a community policing strategy designed around local peculiarities with the active participation of community members and stakeholders.

This agenda is built on six foundational pillars aimed at redefining and strengthening the Nigeria Police Force: Technical and Operational Excellence, Infrastructure Advancement, Welfare Enhancement, Policy Framework Development, Strategic Communication, and Public Trust Management.

The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, praised the Ministry’s approach to security, highlighting the importance of involving community leaders and stakeholders in developing new strategies to combat emerging crimes.

“Security of life and property is the priority of my administration, and my government is prepared to do everything to keep the citizens safe from criminals,” Dr. Otti said.
