The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, Dr. Hauwa T. Muhammad, has announced that the institution is set to undergo a major digital transformation.
Speaking to Voice of Nigeria about the future of the Polytechnic, Dr. Muhammad revealed that the digitilisation process will begin with the ICT Centre and extend to other key administrative units such as the bursary, registry, and academic departments.
“Given the digital age we live in, I am committed to ensuring that all units of the institution are digitalised,” she said. “This will include all departments connected to the registry and other academic activities.”
Dr. Muhammad emphasised her vision for a system that operates with integrity and consistency, saying, “We aim to build a structure where decisions are upheld and systems function reliably. When the institution makes a decision, it should be binding and consistent across all levels.”
She expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its ongoing support and called for further intervention to accelerate the institution’s development.
Commenting on the government’s double certification initiative, the Rector highlighted its importance in today’s competitive job market, saying, “The Federal Government has directed that every graduate should possess not only an academic certificate but also a certificate in vocational skills.
“We have a skill acquisition centre in place, and once we receive final approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), we will launch this dual certification programme.”
Dr. Muhammad also appreciated the NBTE for approving several new courses, including Railway Engineering Technology. She praised the performance of the department’s students in an international competition, noting their unexpected success.
“Their performance left me speechless,” she said. “They’ve now been selected to travel to China for advanced training and will later participate in another competition—all expenses fully sponsored by the host country.”
Dr. Muhammad Sani Aliyu, Head of the Department of Railway Engineering Technology, added that Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa is among the few institutions in Northern Nigeria offering the course.
“Although Kaduna Polytechnic began the course first, we developed the curriculum here at Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa,” he said, urging the government to continue supporting such vital programs.
With its upcoming digital overhaul and skill-based education initiatives, Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa is poised to become a model institution in Nigeria’s technical education sector. (VON)
