The Nigerian Film and Video Censorship Board (NFVCB) has said only films submitted it to by registered distributors will be classified.

It said any distributor with expired license will not be attended to.

In a letter sent to the presidents or chairmen of registered associations, guilds and stakeholders in the Nigerian film industry, signed by the deputy chief of staff to the Executive Director of the board, Mr. Ogbonna Onwumere, the organisation said it noticed that some distributors with expired film distribution licenses “are still parading themselves as film distributors.”

The NFVCB said in order to correct this anomaly, it has updated the list of registered film distributors in its databank as at June 27, 2022.

It said: “This complies with Part VI of the Board’s enabling law, Act, 1993 CAP N40 LFN 2004 and Regulations 2008 which stipulates that ‘no person shall carry on the business of distributing or the exhibiting of films or video work unless he is the holder of a license granted by the Board under this Act’.”

The board urged filmmakers to deal with only registered film distributors on the list to avoid complaints of delay in the issuance of censorship and classification certificate.

“Filmmakers who submitted their films and used distributors that are not on the list are mandated to apply to the Board for change of distributor, otherwise the Board will not classify their films,” it said.
