Ahead of the 54th Cairo International Book Fair to be held in January, 2023, the Secretary-General of the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA), Dr Wale Okediran, recently paid a courtesy call to the Ambassador of the Arab Republic Of Egypt, H.E. A.M. Youssef, in his office in Accra, Ghana.
The visit was part of PAWA’s ongoing efforts to sensitise diplomats of member-countries about the activities of the continental body.
It is on record that the Egyptian Writers Union has remained a strong member of PAWA since inception.
In addition, the next edition of the highly acclaimed Cairo International Book Fair, the 54th in the series, will hold from January 24 to February 6, 2023.
The Cairo Book Fair is the oldest book fair in the Arab world and the meeting point for all types of publishers, be it big, small, independent or public institutions.
In 2006, it was adjudged to be the second largest book fair in the world after the Frankfurt Book Fair.
The book fair, organised by the General Egyptian Book Organisation, is considered the most important event in the Arabic publishing world. It is unique since it is part book market and part literature festival with plenty of cultural events. It is also an opportunity to be immersed in the stories and the city of Naguib Mahfouz, the only Arab Nobel prize laureate till date.
In addition to the Cairo International Book Fair, the Eurasian Literary Festival and the first Congress of the proposed World Writers Association will also take place between January 30 to February 1 in the Egyptian capital.
The events will be rounded off with an award ceremony and the launch of the book: “Living Anthology of Writers of the World”.
