Award-winning Nigerian author Wale Okediran was hosted to a reading of his new novel, Madagali, by the C3 Centre for Creativity and Culture (CIC) in Swansea, Wales, on Saturday, December 27.
The session was part of Okediran’s ongoing book reading tour of the United Kingdom.
Set in the north-east of contemporary Nigeria, the novel is a powerful exploration of resilience, displacement and the human spirit in the face of overwhelming conflict.
Okediran, a prolific author, former lawmaker, and medical doctor, is the General Secretary of the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA).
Prior to the Swansea event, he had read to literary enthusiasts at the Kings Cross, London, office of Daniel Ford Associates on December 18 as well as at the Africa Centre, 66 Great Suffolk Street, London, on December 19.
The author said in a statement that the event in Swansea, which took place at the Centre for African Entrepreneurship, 28 Oxford Street, was a special Christmas package for all lovers of literature.
Under the theme: “A Post Boxing Day of Readings and Rhymes”, it also featured the four-man Gwythion Band in visual performance of “The City of Brass, an Arabian Nights Special”.
The book reading, which was followed by an interactive session and book signings by the author, was anchored by the CIC Founder and Director, Chinyere Chukwudi-Okeh.
Madagali, a factional account of the ongoing insurgency in Nigeria, is available on Amazon.com.
