The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Kalu, on Tuesday in Abuja urged the Muslims to uphold the teachings of the holy Quran in all their endeavours.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kalu made the call in his goodwill message in commemoration of 2023 Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The former Abia governor implored religious and spiritual leaders to use their positions to advocate credible and responsive leadership at all levels.
He said that Nigeria was blessed with religious, ethnic and cultural diversity.
While cautioning against hate speech and inflammatory utterances, Kalu described peace as a panacea for growth and development.
Kalu, immediate past chief whip of the senate, urged the Muslim ummah (community)_to extend the merriment of the celebration to people of other religious faiths.
“This is yet another opportunity for sober reflection as a nation.
“Muslims must uphold the exemplary and outstanding qualities of Prophet Muhammed (SAW) in their daily pursuits.
“The acts of love, togetherness, selflessness, piety, alms giving and patriotism must be imbibed in all our endeavours.
“Let us support and complement efforts of the Federal Government in building a prosperous nation.
“We must continue to live in peace and harmony regardless of our religious differences,” he said.
Kalu wished Nigerians a fulfilling Eid-el-Kabir celebration. (NAN)
