The Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has called on Nigerian women to speak out against all forms of maltreatment against the feminine gender, children and the vulnerable in society.
She made the call weekend when members of the National Forum of Special Advisers on Women Affairs – Nigeria, led by its National Coordinator, Amb. Finney David, came to present her with a certificate of commendation in her office, in Abuja.
The minister stated that it is time to set the records straight in the nation, in order to “ensure the realisation of the Nigeria of our dreams where systems put in place are functional, with citizens being conscious of playing by the rules to avoid consequences that might follow their wrong actions.”
Kennedy-Ohanenye called on women to join their voices against acts that are capable of hindering the growth and development of women, children, and the vulnerable in society.
She said: “Let us unite against rejection of emergency patients in the hospitals, using underage children to sell alcohol, lodging them in hotels and every practice that is inimical to the growth and development of the nation.”
Earlier, Ambassador David had stated that the association was in the ministry to present a certificate of commendation to the minister for her commitment to the development of Nigerian women with life skills and economic empowerment in accordance with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
She added that the group also visited the ministry to explore possible areas of partnership with a view to ensuring the realisation of the ministry’s mandate, especially at the grassroots.
Present at the meeting were the Special Advisers on Women Affairs from Gombe, Niger, Akwa Ibom, Kogi, Plateau, Nasarawa and Yobe states.
