Governor Abdullahi A. Sule has said that Nasarawa State is the best location for filmmaking in Nigeria.
The governor made the assertion at the National Patrons meeting of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) which held in Abuja.
Sule, who was represented at the event by the Director-General for Strategic Communication, Yakubu Lamai, praised Nollywood for helping to raise GDP, create inter-cultural understanding and global friendships, and for being the second largest source of job and economic wellbeing for youths in Nigeria, after agriculture.
Describing Nollywood as a multi-billion dollar industry, he recalled that only a few years back the World Bank committed $20 million as intervention fund to develop the Nigerian film industry, which prompted Nasarawa State to adopt a robust template by creating the perfect environment for the film industry to grow.
It will be recalled that Sule committed over N2.5 billion to complete the Sisin Baki-Farin Ruwa road and also invested in generating hydroelectric power at the waterfalls, so as to attract the construction of hotels, sport centres and a world class film village for filmmakers.
As a strategic boost to the film industry, the governor also joined the French government and the National Film and Videos Censors Board (NFVCB) on Monday, December 7, 2020 to facilitate the take-off of Canal Olympia, the largest cinema in West Africa, which is sited in Karu, Nasarawa State.
