The Minister of Sports Development, John Owan Enoh, has urged Nigerians to embrace the Olympic spirit of peace and unity as the 2024 Games come to a close.
The Olympics concluded on Sunday at the Stade de France, which had been transformed into a grand concert venue.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, Thomas Bach, handed over the Olympic flag to Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles, the host city for the 2028 Games.
Nigeria participated in 12 events with 88 athletes, though the country did not secure any medals.
Despite this, the performances of Nigerian athletes generated excitement across the 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria, with many staying up late to watch the competitions.
The Ministry acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who approved and released funds for the athletes.
The Ministry also expressed gratitude to the coaches, technical staff, medics, officials, and athletes for their dedication and inspirational performances.
Looking ahead, the Ministry emphasized its commitment to preparing for the next Olympics and restoring Nigeria’s sporting prestige under the leadership of Sen. John Owan Enoh.
“The end of every race is the beginning of a new one. The Ministry of Sports Development calls on everyone to embrace and live in the culture of peace every day so we can make Nigeria great again.”
