The SERVICOM Office in the Presidency has urged the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) to synergise with relevant stakeholders in order to be a leading world-class humanitarian organisation that is operationally vibrant, efficient and effective in protecting, assisting and delivering durable and sustainable solutions to all persons of concern.
The National Coordinator/Chief Executive Officer of SERVICOM Presidency, Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli, made this statement at the inauguration of the Parastatal SERVICOM Unit/Committee of the NCFRM in Abuja on Monday.
Henrietta Okokon, the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations, SERVICOM, said in a press statement that Akajemeli noted that the NCFRMI, through the Parastatals SERVICOM Committee, “must foster collaboration amongst stakeholders such as migrants, internally displaced persons, local communities, non-governmental bodies, civil society and private sectors.”
She said, ‘’The primary purpose of government is to improve quality of lives of every Nigerian citizen,” adding, “Hence the establishment of NCFRMI to coordinate the National Action Plan for the protection and assistance of refugees, asylum seekers, returnees, stateless persons, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), migrants.
“All these categories of persons, referred as persons of concern to the Commission.”
The national coordinator highlighted some of the importance of the commission’s mandate, such as facilitating the restoration of communities displaced due to ecological induced occurrences, work towards eliminating irregular migration and encourage orderly and regular migration of Nigerians.
She added that the commission was established to support state governments in the creation and maintenance of an updated register of all IDPs within their jurisdiction and amongst others.
‘According to her, “SERVICOM, an initiative of the Federal Government, was conceived to promote effective and efficient service delivery in MDAs across Nigeria and to ensure customer satisfaction and manage performance-expectation gaps between government and citizens.”
Akajemeli highlighted the mandate of SERVICOM, which includes to coordinate efforts of MDAs to develop and implement quality service charters, carry out independent surveys on customer satisfaction on public services and raise citizens’ demands for satisfactory service from MDAs and others.
She commended the efforts of management for entrenching the culture of continuous improvements in delivering quality and timely services in the commission.
The Federal National Commissioner of the NCFRMI, Honourable Tijani Aliyu Ahmed, in his opening remarks, explained that the challenges faced by displaced populations are immense and it requires the commission to be at its best always.
Represented by the Director of Human Resources Management Department, Malam Bello M. Bello, he said, “We must not only respond to their immediate needs for shelter, food and security but also ensure that our processes are fair,inclusive and geared towards restoring their dignity in line with the principle of ‘Do No Harm’.
‘’As we inaugurate the SERVICOM Unit today,we are not only launching a service mechanism but sending a clear message that we will not relent in our quest to serve with excellence.
“We will continue to provide assistance with compassion,dedication and integrity to the Nigerian citizens.”
