Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has sent felicitations to the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) on the successful holding of its 43rd annual international convention and opening of the Ken Saro-Wiwa International Writers Residency.
In a note to the association, he expressed regret over his inability to attend the event in person but was enthusiastic that Saro-Wiwa was “commemorated in this creative mode”. Soyinka wrote:
Good morning,
This was down in my calendar as a MUST. Unfortunately an emergency has intervened and I only have regrets to send in place of my physical presence. Still, I feel at one with you in spirit, and share a measure of consolation that Ken Saro-Wiwa is being commemorated in this creative mode.
My warmest greetings to all who have come together for this grand occasion.
