The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has expressed sadness over the death of a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Nuhu Yaqub.
President of the association, Dr Usman Oladipo Akanbi, said in a press statement that Yaqub’s passing was a great loss to the literary community.
He said: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our esteemed member and Chairman of the ANA Mbari Series, Prof Nuhu Omeiza Yaqub.
“Prof Yaqbu’s passing is a great loss to the literary community and to all who had who had the privileged of working with him.
“He played a pivotal role in promoting and nurturing the literary art in Nigeria.
“Until his passing, he was the Chairman of the ANA Mbari Series Committee, chairing the monthly meeting for two years and championing its evolution to Quaterly Series in 2024.
“Prof Yaqbu’s unwavering dedication, leadership, and wisdom contributed immensely to the success story of the ANA Mbari Series.
“The former Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja and Sokoto State University contributed immensely to the intellectual discourse at the Association of Nigerian Authors and the broader literary community.
“He inspired and mentored countless writers and readers with his knowledge, guidance and commitment to excellence.
“Our heartfelt condolences are with the Yaqbu family, friends, and all who mourn his loss at this time.
“May his soul rest in peace, and may we honour his legacy through our continued commitment to the arts and to the literary world.
“May Allah grant his soul Aljannah Fridaus, Amin!”
In a related development, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of ANA described the deceased as “a guide and mentor to many young people in the association.”
Chairman of ANA in the FCT, Architect Chukwudi Eze, said in a press statement that Yaqub was an active member of ANA Abuja, and he gave it his unwavering fatherly support.
“He was not just a supporter; he was a guide and mentor to many young people in the association,” said Eze.
“We remember him for his kindness and practical advice to our chapter.
“I served with him briefly as the vice chairman of the Mbari series, where he was chairman.
“His leadership instincts and ability to work with people helped to sustain Mbari.
“We will miss his wits and wise counsels.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with His family.
“We will forever cherish his presence and impact during the time he was alive.”
