The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Niger State chapter, Convention held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in Minna, marked a turning point in the revival of the state chapter, bringing together writers, patrons, and leaders in a nostalgic celebration of unity and creativity.
The National Publicity Secretary (North) of ANA, B.M. Nagidi, said in a press statement this Monday that the convention opened with a welcome address by the outgoing caretaker chairman, Dr. Almamum Al Mamun Mahmud Mallam, who expressed gratitude to members for their resilience in rescuing the chapter from collapse.
He highlighted the efforts of his team in restoring unity and reaffirmed the collective resolve to keep ANA Niger alive.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Abdullahi Ismaila stressed the importance of honesty, integrity, and unity as the driving force of the creative vocation.
He urged writers to put community above self and called for ANA to reinvent itself and reclaim its glorious past.
His reflections on his tenure as chairman in 1994 underscored the challenges and triumphs that shaped the association’s vision as a force for social change.
Discussing the keynote, Zainab Manko shared her personal journey into writing, tying her experiences to Dr. Ismaila’s call for integrity.
Her testimony highlighted literature’s transformative power as both a personal vocation and a communal force for progress.
Representing the National President, Dr. Usman-Oladipo Akanbi, Dr. Keyna Eshika commended the caretaker committee for holding the chapter together and pledged continued national support for peace and progress.
The convention also featured a reflective speech by BM Dzukogi, whose humour and orality lightened the mood as he relived the struggles and triumphs that sustained ANA Niger through the years.
Other notable members in attendance are Aminu S. Muhammad, Nma Hassan Waziri, Sulaiman Banman Baba, Amaechi Odimeize, Awal Idris Evuti, Abba Abdulkareem, BM Nagidi, Terfa Danjuma Nenger, Akote Sadeeq Abubakar, Mohammed Muhammad Yerima, and Khadijah Abdulkadir.
The convention concluded with the election of a new State Executive Council, conducted under the supervision of the Electoral Committee comprising Banman Baba Suleiman (Chairman), Nma Hassan Mohammed (Secretary), and Hajiya Halima Bashir (Member) Dr. Kamar Hamza (Member), and Dr. Keyna Eshika (Member).

Nagidi said: “With this new leadership, ANA Niger is poised to reclaim its prestigious position of vibrancy and literary excellence, rekindling its glorious past and propelling the chapter into a future defined by creativity, unity, and shared humanity.”
