The Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran Kannywood actress and the association’s National Welfare Officer, Hajiya Wasila Ismail.

In a condolence message signed by MOPPAN’s National Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Amarawa, the association described the late actress as a respected colleague, leader and a pillar of the Hausa film industry whose contributions would never be forgotten.

According to the statement, Wasila was among the most celebrated stars of Kannywood and earned widespread admiration through her memorable performances, particularly in the classic film ‘Wasila’, which inspired many people across the Hausa-speaking community.

MOPPAN noted that throughout her illustrious career, the actress used her talent not only to entertain audiences but also to educate the public and promote Hausa culture and values.

The association further praised her commitment to the welfare of practitioners in the Nigerian film industry. As National Welfare Officer of MOPPAN, she was said to have worked tirelessly in advocating for the well-being of members and supporting colleagues during difficult times.

“Hajiya Wasila Ismail graced our screens with unforgettable performances, using her talent to educate, entertain and preserve our culture,” the statement said.

MOPPAN described her death as a painful loss, saying the industry had lost a matriarch whose wisdom, kindness and compassion touched countless lives.

The association added that her legacy would continue to live on through the stories she helped tell on screen and the many people she supported throughout her career.

The statement concluded with prayers for Almighty Allah to forgive her shortcomings, grant her eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus and give her family, friends and colleagues the strength to bear the loss.

Hajiya Wasila Ismail’s passing has continued to attract tributes from colleagues, fans and stakeholders across the Kannywood industry, who remember her as a talented actress and dedicated advocate for the welfare of film practitioners.
