The Federal Government has reaffirmed its determination to end insecurity across the country through proactive military operations, strategic planning and stronger collaboration with state governments.
The Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Muhammad Matawalle, gave the assurance during a condolence and assessment visit to Kano State on Monday following the August 29 bandit attack on Chiroma Village in Garun Mallam Local Government Area.
Matawalle, who visited the Kano State Government House, said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remained committed to defeating insecurity and restoring lasting peace across the country.
He said the Federal Government was developing new strategies to address security challenges, including a proposed Five-Year Defence and Security Plan.
“The President has constituted a committee to develop a Five-Year Defence and Security Plan. This will guide our long-term approach to tackling security threats across the country,” the minister said.
Matawalle disclosed that following the attack, the Commander of the 3 Brigade in Kano, Brigadier-General Jimoh, led a joint rescue operation involving personnel of the Joint Task Force from Hawan-Kwano and Kwanar Dangora camps.
He said the operation resulted in the successful rescue of kidnapped victims around Yan-Kifi Bridge and Marabar Kwari areas of Garun Mallam Local Government Area.
The minister commended the troops for what he described as their courage and prompt response, assuring that the Federal Government would continue to strengthen the operational capacity of the Armed Forces and other security agencies.
“We will continue doing everything possible to support our security services to ensure our country is safe. I assure you that soon, insecurity will be a thing of the past, and we will all live in peace and prosperity,” he said.
Matawalle stressed that the fight against insecurity required the collective efforts of the federal, state and local governments, as well as the cooperation of citizens.
“It takes the combined effort of local government, state and federal levels to tackle this issue of insecurity. We also need timely and credible information from citizens to security agencies,” he stated.
He assured the Kano State Government of increased Federal Government support, including the deployment of additional fighting vehicles, weapons and other operational resources to strengthen security operations in the state.
Earlier, Matawalle held a closed-door security meeting with commanders of the 3 Brigade and other military formations in Kano, where he charged them to sustain the momentum of ongoing operations and intensify efforts to protect communities.
The minister reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to providing the resources and support required to safeguard lives and property and protect the country’s territorial integrity.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, who received the minister, thanked him for the visit and pledged the state government’s continued collaboration with the Federal Government in addressing insecurity.
“We are confident in your leadership. At the state level, we will continue to do what needs to be done to ensure security and stability in Kano,” Yusuf said.
“We have heard the President’s commitment to security in Nigeria, and we will ensure that the menace of insecurity does not remain in our domain.”
The visit came as the Federal Government steps up efforts to implement new measures aimed at addressing the country’s security challenges and improving coordination between security agencies and different levels of government.
