The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has appointed Mrs. Ramatu O. Ibrahim as its Acting Bursar following the death of the substantive Bursar, Mallam Nasir G. Marafa.
The appointment was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Uduma Oji Uduma, with the concurrence of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Malam Isa Yuguda.
A statement issued by the university on Tuesday said Mrs Ibrahim’s appointment took effect on September 8, 2026, and would remain in force until further notice.
Her appointment followed the sudden and untimely death of Marafa, who the university described as a dedicated and dependable officer who served with commitment, professionalism and integrity.
NOUN said Marafa made significant contributions to the university’s financial administration and institutional development, adding that his contributions would be remembered with gratitude and appreciation.
According to the statement, the appointment of Mrs Ibrahim is aimed at ensuring continuity, stability and effective leadership in the university’s financial administration.
Mrs Ibrahim, an experienced university administrator, was until her appointment the Deputy Bursar, Treasury, where she provided professional leadership and oversight of the university’s treasury operations.
The university said she had, over the course of her career at NOUN, gained experience across the major operational units of the Bursary Department, giving her broad knowledge of accounting, financial management, treasury and related administrative processes.
“Her extensive exposure to the various aspects of the Bursary Department, coupled with her knowledge of the University’s financial systems and institutional processes, places her in a strong position to provide effective leadership and ensure the continued delivery of efficient, transparent and accountable financial services,” the statement said.
The university management expressed confidence in Mrs Ibrahim’s ability to discharge the responsibilities of her new office with professionalism, diligence, integrity and a strong sense of institutional responsibility.
The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the university management, congratulated Ibrahim on her appointment and wished her a successful tenure.
The university community was also urged to extend the necessary cooperation and support to the Acting Bursar as she assumes her new responsibilities.
