The Federal Government has released the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTA) to non-academic staff of federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced the payment in a statement on Wednesday, saying it covers the period from January to August 2026.

Dr Alausa said the payment demonstrates the Bola Tinubu administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, industrial harmony and the stability of the nation’s tertiary education system.

He said the government recognises the importance of both academic and non-academic staff to the effective functioning of tertiary institutions and the development of Nigeria’s human capital.

The minister added that the payment was part of efforts to address legitimate welfare concerns and minimise disruptions to academic activities.

The announcement comes days after the Federal Government began payment of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance, CATA, to academic staff.

Dr Alausa said the payments reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening tertiary institutions and ensuring they produce the skilled workforce needed for Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

He also assured staff unions, institutional authorities and other stakeholders that the Ministry of Education would continue discussions aimed at resolving outstanding issues and promoting a stable and productive tertiary education system.

The minister commended academic and non-academic staff, heads of institutions and unions for their patience and cooperation with the government.
