The National Council on Nutrition (NCN) has endorsed new measures aimed at tackling malnutrition and food insecurity across Nigeria.

During a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the Chairman of NCN, Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized the importance of collaboration among government ministries, departments, agencies, and development partners in addressing these critical issues.

“Our dedication to this Council reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to improving the nutritional status of every Nigerian,” Shettima stated.

Key among the approved measures is the establishment of a national nutrition dashboard hosted by the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, aimed at enhancing oversight and coordination of nutrition-related initiatives nationwide.

The Vice President also highlighted efforts under the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit to bolster Nigeria’s food security through resilient and sustainable food systems.

In his address, Shettima praised the proactive efforts of various ministries and stakeholders in combatting malnutrition, underscoring their crucial role in achieving national nutritional goals.

The meeting also saw contributions from Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing nutrition as integral to national development.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, outlined comprehensive strategies to address Nigeria’s nutritional challenges, focusing on improving value chains, food safety, and resilience for vulnerable groups.

The gathering included high-level officials such as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun; Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye; Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, and Minister of Information & National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, among others.

Representatives from international development organizations and projects like the World Bank, USAID, UN Agencies, and ANRiN were also present.
