Residents of communities stretching from Kabuga in Kano City to Dayi in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State have raised serious concern over the deteriorating condition of the Kabuga-Dayi road, a vital route linking the state and Katsina.

In a statement issued by Gwarzo Local Government Information Officer, Lawal Idris Isyaku, on Friday, he narrated that the once busy highway has now become a danger zone, riddled with deep potholes, erosion, and several sections that have been completely washed away.

This has led to frequent accidents, vehicle breakdown and growing insecurity, especially during night hours.

Community leaders lamented that the worsening state of the road has not only disrupted daily movement and local trade but has also exposed commuters and motorists to attacks by bandits and other criminal elements operating along the route.

They called on the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Barau I. Jibrin Maliya, who represents Kano North, and all relevant government agencies to urgently intervene and rehabilitate Kabuga-Dayi road to safeguard the lives and property of citizens.

Speaking on behalf of the communities, an elder, Malam Mujittapha Lawan Gwarzo said: “We are appealing to the State Government and Federal Ministry of Works to intervene before the situation worsen. The road is no longer safe, and our people are suffering.”

The residents further urged the Kano State House of Assembly and the Member representing Gwarzo Constituency to take legislative steps that will prioritise the repair of the road and strengthen security along the area.
