The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has sent its deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the recent tragic stampedes at venues for distribution of palliatives in the cities of Ibadan, Oyo State, Okija, Anambra State, and Abuja.
ANA said, “May God grant the departed eternal rest and comfort their loved ones.”
In a statement signed by its President and General Secretary, Dr Usman Oladipo Akanbi and Dr Dame Joan Oji respectively, the association urged organisers of such events to prioritise security measures in the future to prevent a recurrence of similar tragedies.
“Furthermore, we acknowledge the Nigerian government’s efforts to mitigate the current economic hardship and extreme hunger and encourage governments at all levels to explore innovative solutions to achieving a more favourable economic climate sooner rather than later,” it said.
