The Audio Visual Rights Society (AVRS) has donated the sum of ₦250,000 to a popular Kannywood actor, Mato Na Mato, popularly known as Malam Nata’ala, who has been battling cancer at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri.
The donation, which was routed to him through a former President of the Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) and well-known actor, Makama Sani Mu’azu, is meant to alleviate some of the financial burden associated with his medical treatment.
Mato is popularly known as Malam Nata’ala, after his character in the Arewa24 Television Hausa drama series, ‘Daɗin Kowa’.
New Citizen learnt that the military ruler of neighbouring Niger Republic, General Tchiani, has also made a generous financial donation to Malam Nata’ala.
In his message of appreciation, the actor appealed to his fellow Kannywood members to register with the AVRS, emphasising the importance of collective action in safeguarding their creative works and securing their financial futures.
Previously, the AVRS has shown commitment to supporting creatives in need, as it has a history of providing assistance to members facing health challenges, including Mr. Sonny McDon and Ms. Jumoke George, both of whom received support during their times of need.
Under the leadership of Mahmud Ali-Balogun, the group is expanding its boundaries, making its impact felt across the nation.
By protecting the intellectual property rights of its members and distributing royalties annually, it has become an indispensable institution in the creative industry.
