Residents of Tazame village in the Bungudu local government area of Zamfara state were thrown into panic this morning as bandits attacked worshipers during morning prayers.

A resident, who requested anonymity, informed our correspondent via telephone that the bandits surrounded the worshipers at around 5:00 am on Tuesday.

He reported that two people were killed, and the mosque’s Imam sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the incident.

He further stated that the bandits kidnapped 17 worshipers during the attack.

“As I am talking to you now, 17 of our people have been kidnapped by the bandits while observing morning prayers, while two were killed and our Chief Imam sustained gunshots on his leg,” he said.

Tazame village is located along the Gusau-Funtua road, about 22 kilometers from Gusau, the Zamfara state capital, under the Kwatarkwashi Emirate of the Bungudu local government council.

He appealed to the federal and Zamfara state governments to deploy more security to restore peace in the area.

In a similar incident, communities in Gwashi village under the Bukkuyum local government council in Zamfara state have decried the incessant attacks by bandits, which led to the killing of 43 people within one week in the area.

Malam Muhammad Gwashi stated that the bandits terrorized Gwashi, Tungar Yara, and Kairu areas almost daily, adding that many people were kidnapped in the area.

“These terrorists ransacked many villages in our area and we are living in total uncertainty as a result of their incessant attacks almost on a daily basis, so we need urgent measures to be taken by the federal and Zamfara state governments to restore normalcy in our area,” he said.
