Boko Haram terrorists have kidnapped a High Court judge, Justice Haruna Mshelia, along with his wife, driver, and orderly.
The incident reportedly took place on Monday afternoon along the Buratai-Buni-gari road while Justice Mshelia was returning to Maiduguri, where he serves at the Borno State High Court.
Sources indicate that armed men emerged from the bushes and barricaded the road, intercepting the judge’s vehicle.
“Despite attempts to evade capture, the vehicle was stopped by another group of insurgents,” a source disclosed. “The abductees were subsequently taken into the Sambisa Forest.”
This road serves as the sole link between southern Borno and other regions of the state.
Such incidents are unfortunately frequent in the area, with a recent attack involving Boko Haram ambushing military vehicles, resulting in the death of a lieutenant and injuries to other soldiers.
The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Justice Haruna Mshelia, his wife, orderly, and driver.
Police spokesperson ASP Nahum Daso stated, “We received a report from Sani Audu through the Divisional Officer of Biu regarding the abduction, which occurred on June 21, 2024, around 9 am at Jiba town along the Biu-Maiduguri Road.”
He added that while there has been no contact with the terrorists, the police are implementing all necessary security measures to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted individuals.
