The death has occurred of a veteran broadcaster and elder statesman in Zamfara State, Alhaji Sanda Adamu Tsafe. He was 77.
He died last night at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) in Sokoto after a protracted illness.
One of his sons announced the sad occurrence in a Facebook page.
The late Tsafe first made a mark as a broadcaster while working with Radio Nigeria, Kaduna.
Later, he worked with the BBC Hausa radio in London.
He also served as the General Manager of Rima Radio, Sokoto, a position from which he was sacked over the succession crisis that followed the death of Sultan Abubakar III in 1988.
He was later appointed as a Federal Electoral Commissioner for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
A philanthropist who contributed to Islamic causes, especially in his locality, he held the traditional title of Sarkin Yakin Tsafe.
He was the chairman of Adahan Universal Investment Limited, a general enterprise firm.
Born in 1948 in Tsage, Zamfara State, the late Alhaji Sanda was educated at LEA Primary School, Tsafe, Senior Primary School, Kotorkoshi, the Provincial School, Sokoto, and the Ahmadu Bello University’s School of Basic Studies (SBS).
Later, he attended the London School of Journalism.
He is survived by two wives and 29 children and 36 grandchildren.
