President Muhammadu Buhari has conferred on the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, with an Award of Excellence for her social and humanitarian interventions in Nigeria.
The president presented the Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service ( NEAPS) to her and 44 others on Friday at the State House in Abuja.
Buhari stated during the ceremony that the award is in recognition of those who excelled and distinguished themselves in service to humanity.
He told the awardees: “This award is borne out of empirical evidence of your performance in various sectors of the economy.
“You are receiving this award because you have distinguished yourselves in service to humanity and contributed to the transformation of the country.
“This is a motivation for current and upcoming leaders to spur them to do more for the development of the country.”
Responding, Minister Sadiya expressed delight in her nomination after she received the award for the NEAPS.
“This is an important landmark for me, personally, as this award serves as a recognition of my modest achievements in the course of my wider public service life to date and in my assigned mandate in the social and humanitarian intervention space in the past years.
“I will like to express my sincere gratitude, once again, to His Excellency, Mr. President, for giving me the opportunity to serve my country as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development and through the instrumentality of that office, strive to be of service to the multitude of the poor and vulnerable persons in urgent need of social and humanitarian intervention across the country.
“I also thank TBS Media and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, OSGF, most sincerely for considering me worthy of the 2022 NEAPS Distinguished Award for Social and Humanitarian Intervention, and for uplifting me to join the club of other distinguished Nigerians so honored alongside me today.”
The minister pledged to continue to do her best for the country which is her contribution towards ultimately salvaging Nigeria from its challenges.
The minister’s special assistant on media, Nneka Ikem Anibeze, explained in a statement that the Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service “is aimed at recognising distinguished public service to Nigeria through contributions by individuals, state or local community in leadership, service or humanitarianism.”
The awards ceremony was put together by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) and The Best Strategic Media (TBS).
