The Federal Ministry of Education has launched a revolutionary initiative to equip Nigerian youths with specialised skills in rock tiling and interlocking design.
The Director, Press and Public Relations in the ministry, Boriowo Folasade, said in a press statement that the initiative was unveiled during the opening ceremony of the second edition of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Camp, held in Jalingo, Taraba State, recently.
The director explained that the programme underscores the government’s dedication to fostering creativity and innovation in modern construction and design.
Speaking on the event, the Director of Technology and Science Education, Dr. Muyibat Adenike Olodo, described the training as a vital step towards building a skilled and innovative workforce.
“This programme aligns with the Federal Ministry of Education’s transformative agenda under Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Initiative, which prioritises youth empowerment, poverty eradication, and resilience through practical education and skills acquisition,” she stated.
According to her, “The training aims to equip Nigerian youths with advanced skills to meet the demands of an evolving job market provide practical experience in rock tiling techniques and interlocking surface creation also to foster creativity, enhance craftsmanship, and improve job readiness among participants.”
She stressed that building on the success of last year’s TVET Camp, themed “Painting into the Future,” this year’s edition expands its scope.
Last year’s participants demonstrated their talents by transforming their schools with remarkable painting and decoration projects, earning recognition from the Federal Ministry of Education and the African Development Bank (ADB).
The benefits of the training include empowering youths with specialised skills in rock tiling and interlocking design, enhancing job readiness and employability, fostering creativity and innovation in modern construction and design which will contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth and infrastructure development
The Permanent Secretary, Taraba State Ministry of Education, Alhaji Idris Goje, who represented the state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Augustina Godwin, highlighted the importance of equipping students with skills and knowledge to excel in today’s competitive job market.
Earlier, the Principal of the Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC), Jalingo, Dr. Binunu Samuel Ahmed, had praised the programme’s transformative impact.
The Taraba State Coordinator of NABTEB, Mrs. Zenum C. Peters, described the training as a life-changing initiative.
Also, the representative of the ADB and Coordinator of the Inclusive Basic Service Delivery Livelihood Empowerment Integrated Project, Mr. Jacob Samuel Adekunle, emphasised that the training goes beyond theoretical learning.
The TVET Camp serves as a platform for mentorship, networking, and collaboration, offering participants valuable insights from industry experts and empowering them to make informed career decisions.
With its theme, “Tiling and Interlocking Innovative Surfaces,” the second edition reinforces the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to nurturing a generation of skilled professionals poised to transform Nigeria into a hub of innovation and excellence.
This specialised training seeks to empower and inspire selected students from Technical Colleges and Federal Science and Technical Colleges across the North-east region, including students from Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, and the host state, Taraba.
