Kannywood, based in the northern region of Nigeria, is known for its Hausa language films which have gained popularity both locally and internationally.
In my capacity as the former MTN Regional Manager, North West (2009-2014), I was fortunate to have worked closely with some popular Kannywood Stars in the industry.
MTN recognised its impact on brand localization around community festivals; Lisabi in Abeokuta, Oshin Osogbo, Argungu fishing and Northern durbar events) as opportunities which I championed the idea of MTN Kulturefest; to support the ancestral festivals.
The first MTN Kannywood Awards was a significant event that celebrated the achievements and contributions of actors, actresses, directors, and other professionals in the Kannywood film industry.
The awards ceremony provided a platform to recognize the talent and hard work of individuals in the Kannywood industry, including actors and actresses who have made a mark through their performances, directors who have brought stories to life on the screen, and other professionals who have played vital roles behind the scenes.
First (1st) MTN Kannywood Awards are essential for promoting the growth and development of the Kannywood industry, encouraging creativity and innovation, and fostering a sense of community among industry professionals. Such awards also help to raise the profile of Kannywood Entertainment and talents, attracting more attention and investment in the industry due to the critical need for Kannywood to explore the benefits of the Galaxy Backbone Ltd (GBB)’s tier III and their IV Data Centres in Abuja and Kano respectively.
Overall, the first MTN Kannywood Awards was a milestone in celebrating the vibrant Kannywood film industry and honoring the talented individuals who continue to contribute to its success.
Now that this industry is fast growing there’s good need for data connectivity, security and cloud storage as a must do service.
