Two major collectives of northern filmmakers, the Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) and the Kannywood Film Industry Guilds and Associations (KAFIGAN), have condoled with the family of the Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, over his demise.

The Galadima, who died yesterday at the age of 92 after a prolonged illness, was the oldest member of the Kano monarchy and is survived by many children and grandchildren.

One of his children is the Kano State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas.

In a press release signed by its Public Relations Officer, Malam Ibrahim Amarawa, MOPPAN said: “The Kannywood community received the news of this loss with deep sorrow, as the departure of the late Galadiman Kano Alh Abbas Sanusi is not only a great loss to the Kano Emirate or Kano State alone but to Nigeria as a whole.

“May the almighty Allah forgive him and grant his family, loved ones, and the entire people of Kano the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

On its part, KAFIGAN’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Malam Al-Amin Ciroma, said in a press release issued in Abuja today: “With deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss, the Kannywood Film Industry Guilds and Associations (KAFIGAN) extends its heartfelt condolences on the passing of Alhaji Abbas Muhammadu Sanusi, the Galadiman Kano and a senior kingmaker in the Kano Emirate.”

In the press statement, the chairman of the association’s Board of Trustees, Alhaji Isma’il Na’Abba (Afakallahu), described the late senior monarch as “a significant pillar of the traditional institution, whose contributions to its survival and development would be remembered beyond the Kano Emirate.”

Na’Abba extended his condolences to the government and people of Kano State, the Kano Emirate Council, and the family of the late chief, offering prayers for the deceased’s soul to be granted peace in Jannatul Firdaus.

In a related development, KAFIGAN also sympathised with the Executive Director of the Kano State Censorship Board, Alhaji Abba El-Mustapha, over the death of his grandfather, Malam Kawu Na Warure, who died today after a prolonged illness.

In a separate press release issued by Ciroma, the association’s Director-General, Hon. Adamu Bello, on behalf of its board of trustees and members, sympathised with El-Mustapha and prayed for the peaceful repose of late gentleman’s soul.
