Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has offered automatic employment to nine top-performing graduates and two of the most disciplined students from Isah Kaita College of Education, Dutsin-ma.
He made this known during his remarks at the second combined convocation ceremony of the college in Dutsin-ma town on Saturday.
In a press release, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, quoted the governor as ordering the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to ensure the immediate employment of the selected graduates and a special prize of N2 million each to the three most dedicated staff members of the college.
Radda, a former school teacher and PhD holder, reaffirmed his readiness to develop the college, recognising its crucial role in producing teachers for the state.
He said: “We’ll continue our investment in the payment of affiliation fees for the undergraduate programme with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and support for the college’s dual education mode, offering both NCE and degree programmes.
The governor stated that his administration remains committed to rewarding academic excellence and fostering quality education in the state.
The convocation ceremony, which celebrated graduates from the 2013/2014 and 2021/2022 academic sessions, saw a total of 11,913 graduands receive their National Certificate of Education (NCE) each.
The event was further distinguished by the presentation of merit and fellowship awards.
It also saw the conferment of fellowship awards on four distinguished personalities, including the Executive Secretary of TETFUND, Architect Sunday Echono; a former Provost of the college, Dr. Maigari Abdul, and the late District Head of Dutsin-ma, Alhaji Balan Goggo Muhammad Sada (‘Yandakan Katsina).
Earlier, the Provost of the college, Dr. Isma’ila Ado Funtua, had explained the challenges facing the institution, including low student intake due to the proliferation of satellite campuses and security concerns.
He stressed the need to erect watch towers at some strategic locations.
Responding to this appeal, Governor Radda promised to erect the security towers in the college to provide more security architecture.
The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Paulinus Chijoke, commended the awardees and reiterated the commission’s commitment to maintaining high standards through curriculum review.
The governor subsequently led other dignitaries to the commissioning of new facilities, including the convocation square and undergraduate student hostels, constructed with TETFUND support.
