The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), Dr. James David Lalu, alongside the Chairman of the Independent Corruption Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, inaugurated and inducted the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the NCPWD in Abuja.
The Head of Information and Public Relations Unit at NCPWD, Mbanefo JohnMichaels, stated that move was in line with the federal government’s resolve to build accountable and transparent structures in all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
He reported that Dr. Lalu, represented by Hajia Zainab Lawal, Director of Finance and Accounts Department, emphasized that the Commission is committed to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and aligning with the federal government’s anti-corruption drive.
“I understand that the constitution of ACTU here in NCPWD will support and strengthen the work of the staff of the Commission and enhance the Anti-Corruption movement of the government,” Dr. Lalu said.
Dr. Lalu urged the new ACTU members to adhere strictly to their responsibilities and uphold exemplary conduct.
“Your deportment from this day onwards should be a credit to the State. You must endeavor to shun all vices and corruptible behaviors and let your language be exemplary,” he added.
He expressed gratitude to ICPC for the collaboration and committed to abiding by all regulations that support the administration’s progress.
In his goodwill message, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, represented by the Deputy Director of System Studies and Review at ICPC, Mr. Clement Obayi, praised the Executive Secretary for initiating the ACTU.
He highlighted that the new Unit will help promote transparency by conducting system reviews, sensitizing staff against corruption, developing and implementing a Code of Ethics, monitoring budget implementation, and investigating complaints.
“Develop and implement Code of Ethics; monitor budget implementation, implement the Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard, and undertake preliminary investigations into complaints received,” Aliyu said.
He encouraged ACTU members to exhibit honesty and integrity in their roles, avoiding any oppressive acts.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman of the new ACTU team, Barrister Ikem Uchegbulam, pledged commitment to their roles with integrity and thanked Dr. Lalu for the opportunity to serve.
Also present at the event were Director of Legal Services, Barrister Joseph Okon; Mr. Carl Guruyen from the Human Resource Department, and Head of Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, Mr. Moses Gyan.
