The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has urged for more proactive measures to address drug abuse among students in tertiary institutions nationwide.
Mr. Ndubuisi Agabus, the Keffi Area Commander of NDLEA in Nasarawa State, made this appeal during an interview with newsmen in Keffi on Thursday.
Agabus, an Assistant Commander of Narcotics, expressed deep concern over the rising drug abuse among students in the region.
He highlighted the agency’s significant efforts to combat drug abuse, addiction, and trafficking in the area.
“We have made several arrests, conducted sensitisation programmes and rehabilitated many drug addicts, yet the consumption of illicit drugs is still on the increase.”
“The situation requires more proactive and collaborative actions by stakeholders, we need to work together in the interest of the future generation,” he stated.
Agabus emphasized that parents play crucial roles in the fight against drug abuse and addiction among the youth.
He added that the agency is striving to partner with the management of tertiary institutions in the area to conduct anti-drug sensitisation campaigns. (NAN)
