The North West Governors Forum, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will host the maiden North West Peace and Security Summit in Katsina State.
The summit will take place over two days, on Monday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 25.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is slated to deliver the keynote address, marking his first official visit to the state since assuming office in May of last year.
During his visit to Katsina, the president will also commission a state-of-the-art 16-bed dialysis center at the General Amadi Rimi Specialist Hospital, built by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
Additionally, he will perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Katsina Eastern Bypass, which will extend from Dutsinma Road to Kano Road, passing through Daura Road and ending in Yandaki village in Kaita LGA.
According to Daily Trust, the summit aims to tackle the region’s significant security challenges, including banditry, terrorism, and communal conflicts.
Dr. Bala Salisu Zango, the Commissioner for Information and Culture in Katsina, stated that the summit will bring together stakeholders and experts, including North West governors and key partners, to discuss and devise solutions for restoring peace and stability to the region.
The event, themed “Regional Cooperation for Securing Lives and Livelihoods,” aims to foster peace and stability, enhance cooperation among state governments, and explore sustainable methods for improving food security and promoting sustainable livelihoods.
One major outcome of the summit will be the development of the Northwest Peace and Security Development Framework, a document that will outline strategies, policies, and actions to improve regional cooperation.
