The Nigeria Police Force has announced the passing of retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Parry Benjamin Osemwegie Osayande, in Benin City on Sunday, 28th September, 2025, a day before his 89th birthday.
The Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a press release that Osayande was a distinguished officer who served the Force and the nation meritoriously in various capacities, including as Commissioner of Police in several states, Deputy Inspector-General of Police, and later as Chairman of the Police Service Commission between 2008 and 2013.
The deceased also chaired key presidential committees on police reform, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, accountability, and courage in service.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbtokun, on behalf of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, commiserated with the family, the Police Service Commission, and associates of the late DIG, and paid tribute to his invaluable contributions to policing and internal security in Nigeria.
“The Nigeria Police Force prays for the peaceful repose of his soul and strength for his family to bear this irreparable loss. Funeral and memorial arrangements will be announced by the family in due course,” the statement added.
