In a style uniquely his own, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, captivated the crowds today when he rode out of Gidan Rumfa palace on a dromedary.

It was the first time he was seen riding on the she-camel since his return to the throne, which he is occupying for the second time.

The people stood and stared, while honouring the monarch in the traditional clenched fist greeting.

For many, it was a great spectacle to watch the emir ride by with his courtiers in what is known as Hawan Babban Ɗaki.

The Emir, bedecked in traditional attire, emerges from the inner chambers of the palace, ready for his camel ride.

The Central Mosque’s minarets form a beautiful backdrop as the Emir and his courtiers pass by.

The royal umbrella is rolled above the Emir’s head to provide shade and complement the traditional fabric of the outing.
