Delusions of War

Smothered in clay, dust and confusion
The infantry moves on nevertheless,

The wind tells the story of the one who saw fear and gripped it by the fore loin

Could this be purgatory foretold

Are we just half way from heaven?

Alas if our blazing frustrations
Could be quelled by the ocean of truth,
Would chaos still be chaos

Or is this just our mindset?

This new normal where we befriend crows and have accepted doomsday
Then point out at the white Lily holding clan saying

Look over there…..lunatics.

The Poet

Hassana Suleiman is a Nigeria poet. She is still in awe of all that the earth presents on a daily basis and hopes to be able to put them in words too.

Some, but not all, of her thoughts can be found on Twentyplusish podcast – hassana-suleiman and on Brimstone@ myworld1607.wordpress.com.

Commenting on the story behind this poem, she said: “I came up with this poem after watching the BBC documentary, ‘Bandit Warlords of Zamfara’, with the weak responses from authorities and the sanctions placed on media houses responsible for the documentary. I felt that the idea of peace and security has become a bleak and distant notion.”
