The police in Kogi have confirmed the arrest and detention of Police Officer, Inspector Aminu Mohammed, for alleged robbery and car theft.
The Spokesman, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.
“Inspector Mohammed, a crime officer with the ‘C’ Division at 200 Unit, Lokoja, is currently in custody at the A Division of the command.
“State Commissioner of Police (CP) Bethrand Onuoha has already ordered an investigation into the inspector’s alleged involvement in the crimes,” Ovye-Aya stated.
A reliable source told NAN that Muhammed was detained for robberies around his duty station in Lokoja metropolis.
“The stolen car was found in the workshop of the policeman’s panel beater, Arome Moses, who was working on changing the car color at Ochadamu village.
“People who recognized the vehicle and were aware of the robbery at the owner’s house on June 14 quickly raised an alarm when they saw the car.
“An alarm was raised, and the panel beater was arrested by policemen from the Quick Response Unit (QRU) attached to the Police Area Command, Idah.
“Upon interrogation, the panel beater revealed the truth, leading to the officer’s arrest.
“The car’s license plate had already been changed to an Abuja number, and a backdated car dealer’s receipt from 2020 was presented by the officer as evidence of purchase,” the source said. (NAN)
