Before his new role, Abubakar served as the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) in charge of Zone 14 Katsina.

He will now represent the Northeast Geopolitical Zone on the Police Management Team, taking over from Mr. Habu Sani, the former DIG of the Force Intelligence Bureau who recently retired.

The promotions include 10 Commissioners of Police (CP) advancing to AIG, 15 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) rising to CP, 36 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP) moving up to DCP, and 61 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP) being elevated to ACP.

These decisions were made during an extraordinary Management Meeting of the Commission, led by Chairman Dr. Solomon Arase.

The newly promoted officers, including the new DIG, underwent a mandatory interactive promotion interview as part of the process.

Dr. Arase encouraged the officers to adopt advanced Information and Communication Technology for effective policing and internal security.

He also emphasized their duty to protect lives and property, and to combat crime across the nation.

The PSC chairman assured that the Commission is committed to ensuring regular and predictable promotions for police officers.

The newly promoted AIGs include Ahmed Ammani, Mohammed Adamu, Gumel Usaini, Hamzat Ayinde, Okuoma Basil, Achinyan Fera, Baba Ibrahim, Mohammed Isyaku, and Margaret Ochalla.
