The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Umar-Ibn Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, has called on the military and other security agencies engaged in combating insurgency in the North East to take more aggressive action against terrorists.
El-Kanemi emphasized that confronting the terrorists directly is essential to restoring civil authority in areas under their control.
El-Kanemi highlighted the critical situation in Guzamala LGA of Borno State, which has lacked civilian presence for many years due to terrorist occupation.
He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and military authorities to eliminate the remaining Boko Haram elements in Guzamala, as well as in Kukawa and Abadam LGAs, to facilitate the return of millions of displaced residents to their ancestral homes.
He said, “I commend the Federal Government, the security agencies, and more importantly, Governor Babagana Zulum for their untiring efforts in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists.
“However, I must call on the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the military authorities to clear the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists still occupying Guzamala LG headquarters and other communities in Kukawa and Abadam area councils so that millions of displaced people can return to their ancestral homes.”
The Shehu made this appeal during his Sallah visit to the acting Governor of Borno State, Dr. Umar Kadafur, at the government house in Maiduguri on Sunday.
In response, Dr. Kadafur expressed gratitude for the monarch’s visit and reassured him that a committee, led by the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Hon. Sugum Mai Mele, in collaboration with the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), is diligently working to restore normalcy and relocate displaced individuals from Guzamala back to their homes.
