President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe as the interim Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), pending her confirmation by the NCCC Supervisory Council.
Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, announced on Sunday that this appointment aligns with the President’s commitment to advancing “Nigeria’s green industrial vision, boost investor confidence, and unlock sustainable economic value through various climate finance instruments.”
Dr. Maduekwe, with over 15 years of experience in climate policy and project implementation, will also serve as the Co-Chairperson of the Intergovernmental Committee on National Carbon Market Activation Plan (NCMAP).
Additionally, the President has appointed Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi Shelleng as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Finance and Stakeholder Engagement. He will be seconded to the NCCC Secretariat, focusing on climate finance and stakeholder relations.
Mr. Olamide Fagbuji has also been appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Technology and Operations. He will be seconded to the NCCC Secretariat to oversee the digitalization of a new open procurement process and cross-departmental procedural optimization.
The presidential spokesman stated that President Tinubu expects the new appointees to utilize their expertise and discipline to advance the nation’s goals of green industrial development and climate action, promoting sustainable growth and national prosperity. The appointments are effective immediately.
