The Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Green Heroes Project aims to create job opportunities for youths and retirees across Nigeria.
This initiative is part of a special presidential effort to mitigate and adapt to climate change.
The project will focus on establishing 24 community forests, each covering 240 hectares, across 24 local government areas in the country.
Dr. Salako disclosed this during the recent commemoration of the International Day for Combating Sand and Dust Storms in Abuja.
He encouraged Nigerian youth and retirees to seize this opportunity for self-empowerment.
The Minister also called on stakeholders, particularly at subnational levels, to support the initiative to reduce unemployment and address climate change.
In a separate forum, Dr. Salako revealed that the Ministry plans to collaborate with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) to enhance existing plastic recycling plants.
This effort is expected to create 400,000 direct jobs for youth currently and 750,000 jobs in the future.
