The General Officer Commanding (GOC) I Division and Force Commander of Operation Whirl Punch, Major-Gen. B.A. Alabi, has told soldiers who graduated from the Nigerian Army’s training school in Kaduna on Friday that the course they undertook would enable them to withstand extreme challenges while in battle.

He was speaking during the graduation ceremony of one officer and 50 soldiers/students of Basic Battle Course 5/2023 at the 1 Division’s Training School located in Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna.

Represented by the Chief of Staff, 1 Division, Brigadier-Gen. M.K. Gara, the GOC pointed out that the endurance and mental alertness achieved during the course would enable the graduands to withstand extreme temperature, hunger, fatigue and sleep deprivation, which are normal expectations and experiences in battle.

He enjoined the granduands to bring to bear all experiences gathered throughout the duration of the course in all their future assigned task and operations.

The GOC commended the commitment and discipline of the graduands throughout the duration of the course.

He also commended the Division Training Officer, officers and instructors of 1 DTS just as he specifically thanked the team of instructors from NASI who took the CTCOIN packages.

Earlier, in his welcome remarks, the Division Training Officer (DTO), Brigadier-Gen. A. Wende, stated that the key objective of the Basic Battle Course was to enhance the battle skills required of soldiers adding that the course was carefully designed to improve the knowledge of the trainees on how to confront the current security challenges facing 1 Division in its area of responsibility.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of certificates to the graduands, souvenirs to the special guest of honour and a group photograph.
