The Ondo State chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has explained the reason for the induction of distinguished writer and elder statesman, Basorun Seinde Arogbofa, into its Hall of Fame.

The Chairman of ANA Ondo, Dr. Sunday Afolayan, stated that the honour is in recognition of Arogbofa’s pioneering role in the establishment and development of the association in Ondo State, as well as his remarkable contributions to literature and public service.

He disclosed that Basorun Arogbofa served as the pioneer Chairman of Ondo State chapter of ANA and remains one of the major financiers and pillars of the chapter.

Over the years, Arogbofa has hosted numerous meetings of the association and consistently provided support whenever the need arose, thereby helping to sustain the activities of the chapter and strengthen the literary community within the state.

The induction ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium in Akure.

Born on March 23, 1939, in Oka-Akoko, Ondo State, Arogbofa is widely respected as a Nigerian author, public intellectual, and political leader.

He previously served as Secretary-General of Afenifere, where he played a significant role in shaping discussions on democracy, federalism, and Yoruba political leadership.

He also holds the traditional title of Asiwaju of Oka-Akoko, reflecting his influence and leadership within his community and beyond.

Beyond politics, Arogbofa has established a solid reputation as a prolific writer and literary figure.

A member of both ANA and PEN International, he has authored several books that explore themes of governance, morality, and national development, including Trapped (1983), Agidi Sours: Discipline on Trial (1985), The Socialite (1988), Wives and Mothers (1989), Nigeria: The Path We Refused to Take (2017), and To the Stars Through Bows and Arrows (2019).

The association noted that the Hall of Fame induction recognises Arogbofa’s lifetime achievements in literature, education, and national development.

A recipient of the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR), he remains a respected voice in national conversations on governance, culture, and leadership.

According to the association, honouring Arogbofa is also expected to inspire younger generations of writers to remain committed to the ideals of literature, scholarship, and service to society.
