Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to guaranteeing the constitutional rights and freedom of religious belief and association in Nigeria.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this today when he received David Smith MP, the United Kingdom’s Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief, alongside the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, at his office in Abuja.

Idris noted that Nigeria remains a proudly multi-ethnic and multi-religious nation, emphasizing that the country will continue to cherish and nurture its diversity as a source of strength.

He also highlighted Nigeria’s deep appreciation for the enduring support and solidarity of the United Kingdom, adding that the government will continue to strengthen collaboration with local and international partners and stakeholders in advancing the fight against religious extremism and violence.
