The Katsina State government has said that the Senior Special Assistant on Community Development to the State Governor, Nura Aliyu Garwa, was suspended from office over his being the suspected mastermind of a kidnapping syndicate in the state even before his intention to contest for membership of the state House of Assembly from Batsari Local Government Area.
Garwa was alleged to be involved in the kidnap of an eight-year-old boy at Sardauna Estate in Katsina metropolis and was paraded with other suspects by the state Police Command.
The state Commissioner of Information and Culture, Bala Salisu Zango, said in a press release that Garwa was suspended by the state government for his “involvement in the diversion of empowerment materials meant for distribution to communities in Batsari Local Government under the state government Community Development Programme.”
He said Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has described the activities of the gang as unfortunate, particularly as it involves a profile individual who even contested for the position of a member of the state House of Assembly.
Radda commended the state police command and other security agencies in the state for their commitment to secure the state.
He called on public to support government effort by providing information by reporting suspicious activities to security agencies.
